Historic Blue Mountain Station    1st November 2014

An early rise Saturday morning seen three club members set off from Timaru towards Fairlie then onto Blue Mountain Station where we meet up with six others making up a party of nine which I thought was a  good turnout for this tramp. After arriving at Blue Mountain station the group were soon on the way first following the Orari river before the climb up the Totara spur ridge a gradual and reasonably easy climb with exceptional views in every direction, close to the spur it was time for a spell and a chance to enjoy the surrounding countryside. Once the break was over we then proceeded to descend though sub alpine grasslands where there was an abundance of Alpine flora soon the party was at the Totara Stream Hut this great old hut is in remarkable condition considering it was built in 1867 by we believe one Charles Trip as word goes was a Stone Mason amongst other things. This hut  appeared to be a good spot to have lunch once we had all eaten the team had a tidy up of the hut which we felt was needed, once completed the hut was transpired and  looked wonderful. We then descended via a 4WD track down the valley to where it all began. To sum up this was a good outing for the club great weather, scenery easy going and most of all great company.  The trampers were Ngamai, Sala, Clare, Louise, Chris, Alex, David, Rob and Barry.
