Mount John Tekapo Day trip 24th August
A small group of enthusiastic trampers departed Timaru around 8.30 am on Sunday 24-08- 14 bound for Lake Tekapo and then onto Mount John Loop Track with its spectacular views of the surrounding district. Arriving at Tekapo we meet up with a further three trampers including baby Liam which boosted our party to seven. Once preparations were complete we all headed off first up through the pines and onto the sub alpine tussock and rocky outcrop country where the views began to open up, once on the summit the party were greeted with a beautiful day and 360 degree views of the surrounding Mackenzie country towards the southern alps and Lake Tekapo, after spending sometime at the summit we began our decent stopping off for a well-deserved lunch on the way back next stop was where it all started the car park. We then proceeded to the Tekapo Hot Springs to relax and reflect on a very enjoyable day on Mount John, enjoyed by all who took part.
