Peak Hill Rakaia Sunday 13th December
The climb to the top of Peak Hill (1244m) rewards walkers with sweeping views of Lake Coleridge and its surrounds.
A poled route leads across private farmland onto the hill, climbing through matagouri and celmisia scrub to the ridge. From here, the route turns left and climbs easily along the ridge, arriving at the summit after 2 hours.
From the summit are spectacular views in all directions. Lake Coleridge dominates the view, but several wide river valleys offer expansive views: the Wilberforce River leads northward to edge around the western side of Arthur's Pass National Park, the Mathias and Rakaia Rivers lead westward into the Southern Alps, the Rakaia River leads out across the Canterbury Plains to the ocean beyond.

Glenorchy Area 14th – 21stNovember
I plan to do a couple of walks in this area and most of it will be tenting. It looks an interesting area with several options.
Saturday 15th drive to Glenorchy area and camp the night somewhere (possibly Sylvan campsite) or Glenorchy.
Sunday 15th we will walk up the Earnslaw Burn to the rock Bivy where we will stay and camp out.
Monday 16th walk back out and camp again at Sylvan campsite.
Tuesday 17th we will commence the circuit loop along the Lake Sylvan walk passing old schelitte mine and along the Rockburn to Theatre flat where we will camp out.
Wednesday 18th We will back track along the Rockburn and go over Sugar Loaf Pass (1154m) along Sugar Loaf track and out via Weka flat to Sylvan campsite again for the night.
Thursday 19th There are several walks in the Kinloch area such as Scott’s creek track or Turner creek or Glacier Burn track so I plan to possibly base ourselves at Kinloch campsite and do some of these as day walks.
Aiming to be back in Timaru on Saturday 21st or 22nd
